Music was one of the most instrumental things that provided comfort, healing, and hope for me during my pregnancy and birth.

I started looking for songs for my playlist in the first trimester. By second trimester, I had all of the songs on my phone, in a Youtube pregnancy and labor playlist, and burned to CDs for my car. I listened to them all of the time – while walking, while relaxing in bed, while taking my trips to the chiropractor, midwife, or hospital for ultrasounds (30-50 minute drives).

I shed a lot of tears. I danced. I let the healing words wash over me time and time again.

When it came to birth, I only listened to these songs in very early labor. Later on in labor I wanted either silence or, surprisingly, I wanted to listen to baby lullabies. (Check out my lullaby Pandora station here.)

These songs on my labor playlist were also so healing for me in the postpartum period as I processed the emotions of having yet another cesarean.
