SPACE X LAUNCH and our fun astronomy homeschooling science unit

January 27, 2021 by Aprille Leave a Comment

As I look back on this unit that began with a trip to the Adler Planetarium a week before they closed due to COVID and ended with the Space X launch literally on the next-to-last day of our first official school year, it seems so obvious to me that God’s timing is perfect. This was not coincidence. This was not serendipity. This was God revealing Himself to our family – and to our children – in a beautiful way.

Becoming a read-aloud family (& tips for reading aloud to wild boys!)

January 12, 2021 by Aprille Leave a Comment

There’s never been a point when I haven’t read to our boys, but homeschooling provides much more opportunity and time to read to them. At the beginning of 2020, I got the CD version of the book Read-Aloud Family by Sarah McKenzie and began listening to it. I devoured the book over the next few … [Read more…]

October 28, 2020 by Aprille Leave a Comment

On top of having some great homeschool curriculum, we heavily supplement our learning with books, book series, and TV shows that cover the same content in our lessons. (I will be discussing how this helps ADHD kids in an upcoming post.)

ADHD Homeschooling: Hacks, Tricks, and Tips for Making It Work

October 4, 2020 by Aprille Leave a Comment

When people ask how homeschooling with ADHD is going, I usually reply, “It’s going so great. I mean…it’s messy and chaotic and loud and frustrating and most of the time I want to pull my hair out. But it’s the best decision we ever made.”

We have just finished up our FIRST year of homeschooling and the completion of Ezra’s 3rd grade year! June 1st marks our first day of year two! Little Free Library: a social-distancing-friendly way to get kids out of the house

March 19, 2020 by Aprille Leave a Comment

I think all of us moms are reeling from the current world happenings due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Many moms used to sending their kids to school have been thrust into a homeschooling environment overnight. Even us homeschoolers are adjusting to a new normal that doesn’t include field-trips, co-ops, playdates, and trips to the local library. Even going to the park or playing with the neighbor kids seems too risky! While our local libraries are still offering online ordering and curbside pickup (hallelujah!), I’ve been thinking a lot about another avenue to practice social distancing while still getting your kids out of the house. May I introduce you to Little Free Library.
