SPACE X LAUNCH and our fun astronomy homeschooling science unit

January 27, 2021 by Aprille Leave a Comment

As I look back on this unit that began with a trip to the Adler Planetarium a week before they closed due to COVID and ended with the Space X launch literally on the next-to-last day of our first official school year, it seems so obvious to me that God’s timing is perfect. Becoming a read-aloud family (& tips for reading aloud to wild boys!)

January 12, 2021 by Aprille Leave a Comment

There’s never been a point when I haven’t read to our boys, but homeschooling provides much more opportunity and time to read to them. At the beginning of 2020, I got the CD version of the book Read-Aloud Family by Sarah McKenzie and began listening to it. I devoured the book over the next few … [Read more…]

A HUGE list of educational TV shows & book series for elementary kids!

October 28, 2020 by Aprille Leave a Comment

On top of having some great homeschool curriculum, we heavily supplement our learning with books, book series, and TV shows that cover the same content in our lessons. (I will be discussing how this helps ADHD kids in an upcoming post.)

ADHD Homeschooling: Hacks, Tricks, and Tips for Making It Work

October 4, 2020 by Aprille Leave a Comment

When people ask how homeschooling with ADHD is going, I usually reply, “It’s going so great. I mean…it’s messy and chaotic and loud and frustrating and most of the time I want to pull my hair out. But it’s the best decision we ever made.”

Escape {Homeschool Mama Musings}

December 16, 2019 by Aprille 1 Comment

Homeschooling is loud and messy and cluttered and chaotic and overwhelming and frustrating and LOUD. But it’s also beautiful and rewarding and heartwarming and, dare I say, even peaceful sometimes. I still treasure my alone time, and I still seek out snippets to be away from my kids. That desperate need to escape my kids is just gone.

Beauty in the {Homeschooling} Mess: A Mini-Blog

November 10, 2019 by Aprille Leave a Comment

I was sitting down to type this out as a status, but realized it would be extremely long. So I decided to come here and sweep away the cobwebs and write for a few seconds. Homeschooling is going well. A much longer post is coming. But with everything else on my plate (a part-time job … [Read more…]
