November 10, 2018 by Aprille 1 Comment

I recently enlisted the help of a close friend who has successfully lost weight to be my accountability partner in trying to lose weight. Because after two years of trying to lose weight on my own, I’ve been 100% unsuccessful. This friend has been wonderful. It’s me who is the problem. Or, more accurately, my … [Read more…]

Maybe it’s just me. But sometimes I have Mommy fantasies. Most of the time, these fantasies involve me, an empty hotel room, a TV remote, and copious amounts of chocolate. But on my more desperate days, I have the appendicitis fantasy. You know, the one where you think, “What would happen if my appendix burst? … [Read more…]

September 25, 2016 by Aprille 3 Comments

By guest author, Michelle Cuthrell Three and a half years ago, my husband and I fell in love with an 18-month-old boy from China. He was precious. He was perfect. And he had medical special needs. Having two biological children of our own at the time, we had no prior experience with caring for children … [Read more…]

On ER visits and “trendy-cute” scarves

October 29, 2012 by Aprille 24 Comments

I’m onto day five of wearing my lovely heart monitor. It’s three wires attached to my chest that run to a small cell-phone-lookin thingy attached to a black lanyard that hangs around my neck. I also carry around another cell-phone-lookin thingy that goes with it that transmits all of my data to the-people-out-there-watching-the-screens-to-make-sure-I-don’t-die. In case … [Read more…]
