A HUGE list of educational TV shows & book series for elementary kids!

October 28, 2020 by Aprille Leave a Comment

On top of having some great homeschool curriculum, we heavily supplement our learning with books, book series, and TV shows that cover the same content in our lessons. (I will be discussing how this helps ADHD kids in an upcoming post.)

DMDD: Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder – Our “Missing Piece”

October 9, 2018 by Aprille 7 Comments

Our son Ezra – who is now eight years old – has been quite the enigma, hasn’t he? If you are new to our family’s blog – or perhaps visiting via Pinterest or some other social media platform, I highly recommend reading our son’s story in detail, as this post really builds on what I’ve … [Read more…]

A very long life and family update (with lots of pictures!)

January 28, 2017 by Aprille Leave a Comment

I’m so glad that January is almost over, aren’t you? Honestly, though, it’s been a good month for our family, considering it was January. We started off the year with a beautiful 8-or-so inches of snow. A real treat for North Carolina. If you like snow. This means that what was supposed to be our … [Read more…]

when you want to blog but your brain is too full…

September 30, 2016 by Aprille 2 Comments

Hello my familiar friend. Blank, white post window. Blinking cursor beckoning. Inviting. I just stopped in the middle of an assignment because the baby bonked his head in his crib and as I sat there and rocked I knew that I needed to take some time in this space. My space. I’ve spent all afternoon … [Read more…]

This is how we survived the summer

September 1, 2016 by Aprille 1 Comment

At the beginning of the summer, I wrote a blog post about Summer Survival. In that post, I talked about the pull of the romanticized notion of letting kids be bored during the summer – the idyllic 1970s summer that people these days seem so fond of trying to recreate. I also talked about how … [Read more…]

What music history can teach us about mental challenges

July 21, 2016 by Aprille Leave a Comment

I’m a week away from being done with my music appreciation class. I have found this class to be highly enjoyable and enlightening. The book has covered the lives of many of the most well-known composers throughout music history. One thing that has been incredibly thought-provoking to me in studying the lives of these men … [Read more…]

In which I word vomit about my life

June 26, 2016 by Aprille 3 Comments

My house is quiet. My mother-in-law has taken Ezra away to get a 3-day head start on our family vacation and Little Brother is sleeping. The only sound is the air conditioning, the quiet whrrrr of my computer, and my husband in the next room talking with gaming buddies. Ah, this is the life… Scratch … [Read more…]

Preschool Graduation: Ezra’s Trials and Triumphs

June 9, 2016 by Aprille 4 Comments

Yesterday was Ezra’s preschool graduation. Tomorrow is his very last day of preschool, and falls exactly two years and four months from the day I first sent him off to preschool. I felt so many things that day: Relief – that I was no longer going to be his everything, that he could look to … [Read more…]

I’m going back to school: my dream and the plan

April 6, 2016 by Aprille 4 Comments

My college years were filled with drama and exhaustion. Going back to school was pretty much the last thing I wanted to do. Ever. Until a year ago. But this story begins long before. I remember the first time I sat in the office of the “Behavioral Health” clinic on post at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Checking … [Read more…]
